Herman E. Grann 81, of Ilion passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center in Ilion.
He was born on October 12, 1935 in Ilion a son of the late Eskil and Doris (Appley) Grann. He was raised by his mom and Stepfather Doris and Clyde Baker.
Herman graduated from Van Hornesville Central School in 1954. He served in the United States Marine Corps for four years and then served in the United States Navy for 26 years retiring at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He also served during the Vietnam War.
After his retirement from the Navy he was employed with the Bremerton Naval Base in Bremerton, Washington for fifteen years.
In 1973 in Yokosuka Japan he was united in marriage to Yukiko Yue. She predeceased him in 2011.
Herman is survived by his sisters, Doris Marsh and Lois Allen, his brothers, Robert Grann and John (Linda) Baker all of West Winfield, also a sister-in-law, Donna Grann. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, David Grann and a sister Bonnie Tucker
As per Herman's request there will be no public services. He and his wife Yukiko will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home 365 West Main St. West Winfield.
