Joan Snyder Stressel, 82, of New York Mills, passed away on February 20, 2014 at home with her family by her side.
She was born on July 16, 1931, in Utica, the daughter of Florence and Fred Snyder. Joan graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1950. Joan married Clarence Stressel in 1954; together they began their family and built their business, J.J. Finnegan Roofing which they ran together until they retired in 1998.
Joan was a known local artist, her paintings frequently captured landscapes and wildlife that she view from her camp in the Adirondacks. Joan's art has been displayed at numerous places locally including Munson Williams Proctor Institute.
Joan is survived by her husband; Clarence Stressel celebrating 59 years together, her brother and sister-in-law, Fred & Debbie Snyder and her sister-in-law, Carol Ciarelli. She also leaves a son and four daughters, Steve and Sheryl Stressel of New Hartford, NY, Patricia Moreland, of Whitesboro, NY, Sherry and David Wise of Cleveland, NY, Laura and James Scherz of Lee Center, NY and Arlene Stressel of Whitesboro, NY, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her special nephew, Fred Snyder, Jr. and his wife Candy.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to all the nurses who cared for Joan and a special thanks to Laurie(her buddy).
There will be no public calling hours or services. Arrangements are with Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford, NY.
