Phyllis Ruth Kent, 84, of Brooksville, FL went to be with the Lord on February 13, 2017. Phyllis was born on January 27, 1933 in Utica, NY to Joseph and Eunice Grob Kent.
She graduated Cum Laude from Holland Patent High School in 1950. She went to Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, MA graduating in 1955 with a major in biology. She then put herself through nursing school in Stoneham, MA earning a Master's Degree in nursing in 1957. From there, she moved to San Diego, CA worked as a Lab Technician then taught grades 4, 5 & 6 in Barstow, CA. In 1967 she moved to Kansas City, MO to attend Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 1971 she earned her degree as Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, and practiced near Springfield, MO until 1978 when she entered the United States Air Force as a Major.
In the military, Phyllis was stationed in Turkey and traveled as much as she could. She enjoyed living in Turkey, however, in 1981 she left the USAF, to return to NY to care for her father. She had a general practice in Lowville, NY for about seven years, where she made house calls and worked at the hospital. From there she moved to Oneida, NY and worked as a doctor for the Oneida Correctional Facility until her retirement in 2001. After her retirement, she moved to Brooksville, FL spending her summers in Barneveld, NY where she grew up.
Phyllis was a generous, fun loving person who made many friends throughout her life. She attended clown school and was always ready to dress up in crazy outfits. She was a talented seamstress who made many of her "crazy" outfits and won prizes for them. She loved to travel, was an avid reader and learned calligraphy. Other hobbies included quilting, knitting and needlepoint. She volunteered for many organizations and especially loved animals.
Phyllis is survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Eunice Kent and her sister, Judie K. Sokoloff.
A memorial service will be held for Phyllis in June at a date and time to be announced. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with Military Honors which will be held on Saturday June 24, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Evergreen Cemetery in Barneveld, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to "Doctors without Borders" or any animal charity of your choice.

Phyllis was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
