Reba Frances Washburn Crewell, passed away peacefully, with her loving family at her side, on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Reba was born, August 7, 1936, to Arthur James and Ruth Henrietta Bliven Washburn, in the Town of Bridgewater, NY. On April 9, 1955, Reba married William Earl Crewell in the Bridgewater Congregational Church, a union which totaled sixty-one years. Reba graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1954 and started her working career at Utica Mutual Insurance Company as a filing clerk, leaving in September 1956, to join her United States Air Force husband, William, to Barksdale Air Force Base, near Bossier City, Louisiana. While in Louisiana, Reba gave birth to their first child, Pamela Ann, who was born in Highland Hospital, Shreveport, Louisiana. With William's enlistment completed; William, Reba and Pamela returned to West Winfield, NY and lived with William's parents until moving into a new home they built in West Winfield. Moving into a new home, a new baby boy, Jeffrey Scott also arrived.
Reba loved to camp, during the summers, with the children and pet dog. Her favorite places to camp were in the New England States, on Cape Cod, and in New York parks. Reba's hobbies were crocheting; doing genealogy – where she had completed as far as she could on five different families; and did scrapbooks on the West Winfield Rotary Club.
As the children aged and attended school, Reba attended the Utica School of Commerce and graduated with Certificates in Stenographic and Accounting. Reba again returned to the work force, and filled the positions she trained for with two different Law Firms. Later, she worked in accounting at Genuine Auto Supply; and for the last 19 years at Alecia & Crewell Architects, working in her husband's partnership office, retiring at the same time with William, in 2002.
Reba is survived by her husband, William; daughter Pamela Topper, her husband David Topper, and grandchildren Michelle Topper, Sara Topper and Derek Topper; son Jeffrey Crewell, his wife Lisa Ann Johnson Crewell, and grandchildren Sara Crewell, Cody Crewell and Austin Crewell; one sister, Betty Washburn; several cousins and their children.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at St. Elizabeth Medical Center on the second floor Orthopedic, and the Intensive Care Unit on the third floor, for their compassion.
